What Causes High BP Inspite Of Having Kidney Infection?
Question: During my service in Vietnam, I had a kidney infection. I was 21 years old and had no history of hypertension or family history of HBP. I was initially treated with Gantrisin ( Sulfisoxazole ), pyridium, Benadryl, and Darvon. I then developed lower back pain ( CVA Tenderness ) and headaches. My BP then became elevated approximately 190/110. The infection reoccurred and I was subsequently treated with Furadantin (Nitrofurantoin ). My BP fluctuated from above normal to high for several months then became chronic for the rest of my life. Could the infection and or medication cause chronic HBP. thank you XXXXX
Brief Answer:
Kidney infection caused secondary HBP
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
If at the time when the infection re-occurred, the problems with high blood pressure started; then, you kidney infection (pyelonephritis) has caused HBP. In such cases, it is called secondary hypertension.
