What Causes High BP, Weight Gain And Swelling In Legs And Feet?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Sep 2016
Question: Hi, I have severe UC that is being treated with Lialda and Canasta but I also have really high blood pressure 148/88 when my entire life - I had low blood pressure 110/70. I've gained 30 pounds in 4 months and have swelling in my legs and feet. The doctor is sending me for blood tests but is there something else I should be looking for? Most people with UC lose weight but I'm gaining rapidly. Thanks, XXXX

Brief Answer:
Hello. The problem is likely your thyroid

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to HCM,

My thoughts would be that you may have a low thyroid problem(Hypothyroidism), but this may also be a kidney problem with water retention. Both of those can easily be spotted with blood work (fT3 fT4,TSH and Renal Function Assay), and this wouldn't be related to your UC.

Please let me know if you need to discuss this further.
Regards
