What Causes High Blood Sugar Levels After Prednisolone Usage?
Question: I am diabetic and had recently cataract eye surgery and the surgeon is teating me with Prednisolone Acetate 1% eye drops 4 time s a day. Is it safe to use it as I noticed this morning that my blood sugar was 188 which is very high?
Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
A blood glucose of 188 is not critically high. But it's not supposed to run like that chronically. I understand you are on prednisone drops which are not known get absorbed in significant amounts into the blood stream. They are not expected to worsen the diabetes significantly , if at all. The drops prescribed by the surgeon after your cataract operation are important to ensure proper healing. So please do not stop them. If your blood glucoses persistently remain above 150 then call your diabetes doctor to see if your diabetes treatment can be modified to bring them closer to the target levels for you
