What Causes High Fever With Convulsion?
Question: I have a question about meningitis in young children (1 year old). My son got very high fever very quickly today at daycare. Apparently he might have had a convulsion. He was very hard to wake up and very drowsy. His feet and hands were very cold when I picked him up. After a paracetamol suppository his fever came down. He slept normally and then woke up, ate, played, and was normal. I was told just now about the convulsion and the shaking, so I did not know this when I took him to the doctor. But now I am worried and wonder if I should take him to hospital. He has been fine for the rest of the day. Is it possible to have meningitis and feel fine?
Brief Answer:
less likely

Hi
Thanks for review
Clinically this looks like simple febrile convulsion. This type of convulsion occur in children 9 months to 6 years. It is benign. No anticonvulsant is needed.( provided his milestones are normal as per age and no significant intranatal or postnatal history )
But since this was first episode of convulsion he should be investigated for other causes of seizure. So take him to hospital. Since he is playful meningitis is less likely.
