Question: Hi there , my sister has kidny failure, she is 23 and diagnosed with downsyndrom, last week she had a lot of pain ,she couldn't sleep the night she would just say my stomach and my back both heart .we took her to the hospital and they said she has high hemoglobin in her body and they have to take out about 500ml , so my question is what are the causes of high hemoglobin and how it's related to the kidny failure? Is it possible that she has kidny cancer or blood cancer , her doctor gives her a LASIX and a lot of different types of medicine which he said it's going to help her take out the toxic and urine from her body till she gets kidny transplant, and he put her in diet .

Brief Answer:
kidney failure causes low Hemoglobin

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Kidney failure generally causes low hemoglobin as the erythropoitin hormone is secreted by the kidney.

Sometimes there can be overproduction of erythropoitin, one such condition is cystic kidney disease and other include kidney cancers also though very rare.

patients with cancer are not advised transplant. so i feel there is some confusion in the information provided. Please inform what is her hemoglobin level and serum creatinine level to start with so that we have the correct picture

Best wishes
