Question: I recently had blood work done and results show high on my ALK PHOSPHATASE. Mi reads 141. I have had cancer and am now 4 years in remission. Does this test result give me cause to worry about another type of cancer. My cancer was Merkelcell carsenoma type one. Treated at Mayo clinic in XXXXXXX Minnesota.

Brief Answer:
Not a malignancy, Alk phos still in range. No worries.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. How ever in want to inform you that your alkaline phosphatase levels are still not high, rather un upper limits of normal range, which is 44-147 IU/L. Also merkel cell carcinoma is of skin and previously corrected already.

if you have been treated successfully for merkel cell malignancy then it must be sorted out in early stages and that rules out liver metastasis and resulting ind eranged liver functions which are not deranged in your case either.

Nut shell,. it is not out of range but higher limits of normal. It is still normal. Age related increase of alkaline phosphatase is normal as liver is not the only place where alkaline phosphatase come from. Its bones with age related degenerative changes contributing too and that might explain this level.

Nutshell, you don't have to worry about . And there is no other type of cancer just because of slightly elevated alk phosphatase. You need to calm down and stop worrying. You are as good as humanly possible.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Regards
Khan
