What Causes High Urine Output During Night Post Bladder Reconstruction?
Question: I have a neo-bladder after bladder/prostate cancer. I have NO problem with daytime "bladder" control/urination. However, I tend to have accidents at night if I do not wake up (via alarm clock) and empty my bladder every 2 hours. I checked urine output vs. time of day/night and found that urine output is much higher during night/sleeping hours than in daytime hours. My Uro therapist said that this is a form of polyuria, but my Uro Doc has not been interested in attempting a cure (if there be such possible). Do you have any suggestions for treatments? I had neo-bladder work done at USC (XXX), but have been living in XXXXXXX TX area since chemo/surgery.

You are doing well after a major surgery. However, the problems related to neobladder can be worrisome. Many patients have this problem of nocturnal increased urine and enuresis while being continent in daytime.
There are various drugs for this problem (apart from reduced water intake from evening), like oxybutynin, verapamil and low dose desmopression at bedtime. Desmopressin is a hormone which reduces urine water temporarily and can cause big improvement in the problem.
You can discuss these options with your urologist. I am sure one orthe other will work for you.
