A total white cell count of 11 or more is called leukocytosis. This occurs in response to :(1)infection
(2) surgery or other physical trauma
(3)emotional or physical stress can also affect the white cell count if the stress is sustained
(4)side effect of some medication
(5)Smoking and intense exercise can also cause a reactive increase as well
(6)allergies, asthma, dermatitis eg eczema
(7)parasite infections
(8)chronic/persistent inflammation such as in RA, lupus, chronic hepatitis etc
(9)leukemia

These are some of the more common causes.
