Brief Answer:
Possible but rarely serious, take antihistamines

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to know more details about your hives like -

a. Since when so you have hives?

b. Do they itch, burn or both?

c. Do you have fever or joint pains?

d. How long do your hives last?

e. Do they subside with medications? Which medications?

f. Are they related to any food?

g. Do you have any other allergies?

h. Do you sweat a lot?

i. Do you have any other medical condition(s)? Do you regularly/frequently take any medicine(s) for any other cause/disease? (some medicines can cause hives)

I will be able to help you more if you could give me above details on follow-up.

Regarding your present query, I would like to reply as follows:

1. Yes, it is possible that hives can be associated with sweating. They can be due to activities causing sweating ("cholinergic urticaria") or rarely due to allergy to one's own sweat contents. In that case, efforts to minimize sweating can be helpful, for example, avoiding activities causing excessive sweating, avoiding hot/spicy foods, wearing loose-fitting clothes, etc.

2. However, there are may causes of hives such as allergies, intestinal worms, other infections, autoimmune conditions, etc.

3. As your biopsy is normal, it can reasonably rule out serious diseases associated with urticaria.

4. Were i treating you, I would suggest you to take an anti-histamine drug like cetirizine or levocetirizine or hydroxyzine for urticaria symptoms. Also I would suggest you to follow measures to reduce sweating as suggested in no. 1.

To summarize, I would say that yes, hives from sweating is possible but there are other causes also. Usually hive are rarely associated with serious diseases. Detailed evaluation should be done to identify the cause of hives. Treatment is usually antihistamines.

Hope above suggestions and answer will be helpful you.

It will be my pleasure to help you with best of my knowledge and efforts should you have any further query or if you could provide more details.

Wish you the best of the health.

Thank you & Regards,

Dr. Parin

Brief Answer:
Daily antihistamines

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,

Thank you for your follow-up.

I would like to make following suggestions to you after reviewing your details:

1. As you have hives for more than 6 weeks and also as they last for more than 24 hours, the chance of having allergic cause is less.

2. Were I treating you, I would suggest you to take regular antihistamines like cetirizine, levoceirizine or hydroxyzine. They may cause you sedation as side effect, especially hydroxyzine.

If you have hives/itching during night time also, I would suggest you to take cetirizine or levocetirizine in morning and hydroxyzine before going to bed at night.

3. Please do not self-medicate with topical corticosteroids (Triamcinolone acetonide) for hives. Please take them only as per your doctor's advise. Prolonged use with them can cause side effects.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask on follow-up.

Wish you the best of the health.

Thank you & Regards,

Dr. Parin N. Parmar
