What Causes Hives On Face?

This has happended several times - daughter may be exposed to something she is allergice to. Have not completely figured out what, but she wakes up with hives on her face, the hives then swell and are burning hot. I dose here with antihistamines, sometimes for a week before the hives get better. The next phase is a super flaky dry skin on eye lids and upper lip area below nose. At this point her face feels tight, hard to move her mouth. This takes at least a full week to get back to normal. It is heart breaking. She is 8 and the kids at school tend to be curious. Dermatologist said she had over reacation to yeast, to wash with Head & Shoulders. That may help, but not when she is in this conditiin, due to it sometimes, burns. This morning she put vasaline on for relief. Any suggests please and thank you.
Avoid contact with allergens..
Detailed Answer:
Hi there my dear,
I am sorry for the heart-breaking situation your daughter is going through. She is experiencing angioedema as she is being allergic to weeds, grasses, pet dander.
Each time she gets in contact or "smells" the presence of such allergen, she will end to have hives or angioedema.
It is very important to prevent her contact with such allergens. If not possible, I advise to give her anti-histamines to prevent severe angioedema symptoms.
I also advise to apply cold compresses to the swelling part of her body as it will get better relief. Usually, the skin will turn back to normal after the attack without leaving any scar.
All the best!
