What Causes Hoarseness In Voice Indicate Throat Cancer?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I'm a 34yr old female, smoker. Occasionally I get a hoarse voice. Usually if I've been talking for a while like reading the kids a story. After a little rest it returns to normal.

Is this something that could be a sign of cancer or would that cause a hoarse voice that was constantly hoarse?
Other symptom is pulsatile tinnitus in left ear, for about 10 weeks now. Nasal steroids did nothing. Awaiting ENT specialist appointment still.

Brief Answer:
Chronic Laryngitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The best way to evaluate a hoarseness is a Stroboscopy. If this is not available, a VideoLaryngoScopy (VL'Scopy) will be necessary.

2. From your history it seems to be a Chronic Laryngitis.

3. Check if the Pulsatile Tinnitus is synchronous with the heartbeat.

4. The most likely cause for this tinnitus will be fluid build-up or changes in pressure in the left middle ear. Get a routine ear examination to rule out ear wax and then get a Tympanogram (Impedance Audiogram) and a Pure Tone Audiogram (PTA) done. Upload the result here. Meanwhile start regular steam inhalation.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
