What Causes Hot Feeling Around The Neck During Panic Attacks?

Question: Dear Doctor My son is 13 YEARS 1 1 Months old. Weight 95 kgs. height above 5.5 . Of late he is experiencing sudden hot feeling around the neck only in the evenings . He says hot from within inside . Before it was once or twice a week and now it is almost every day. He swims. Thyorid test done 6 months ago. No thyroid problems . He has been under Fludac 60 mg for nearly a year. He cries a lot and panics when it becomes hot around the neck and it subsides automatically. He started relaxing massages today onwards . please let me know what could be his problem. We are put under stress and we are worried when he panics and cries and feels something has happened to him.

I do understand your concern and apprehensions.
The symptoms which he is experiencing are manifestation of panic attacks. They usually present with vague symptoms including feeling of either hotness or coldness, palpitations.
I would like to reassure that there is no cause for concern.

I would suggest you the following solution
1. Do not panic when your son experiences such attack. Remember the attack is not life threatening and will subside as quickly as it occurred.
2. Reassure your son there is nothing seriously wrong
3. Meditation and Yoga will be helpful
4. Continue medication

But doctor he never had this before. and comes only in evenings hot from within around the neck .

Experiencing hot feelings without external increase in temperature , and if there is no difficulty in swallowing then there absolutely no organic cause. Such symptoms are manifestation of panic attacks or Hysterical attacks.
I would suggest you to consult Pediatrician for thorough assessment to avoid missing any organic cause. I would also suggest you to get his blood pressure measured twice a day for next 3-4 days.
