What Causes Hunger Pains And Burning In Throat?
Question: Hi I talked to a Dr. last night about some symptoms I have been having since Saturday evening . First off I have Gerd , I have had it off and on for awhile. I went out with friends Friday night for drinks ... beer , Champagne... etc. By Sat. evening I started having hunger pains and some burning sensation in my throat . The symptoms have gotten a little better .. I am now taking Pepsid AC .... and Aciphex ... So my question is how long will it take to get over this Gerd flair up ?.... And I worry about reading similar symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer ... So I am a little freaked out ... I feel fine ... no fever , jaundice , normal bowel movements , no loss of weight . But I read online about abdominal discomfort can be a sympton of Pancreatic Cancer . I am not a smoker and only go out drinking once a week . I could stand to lose some weight ... and I do have a hiatal hernia as well ... The Dr. I spoke to said it is a Gerd flair up ... Would you agree with that as well ?...

Your symptoms started after drinking beer and champagne.
The burning pain in the throat is typical of GERD.

Hi XXXXXXX
You can get an upper GI endoscopy done to see if you have peptic ulcer.
Alcohol intake can cause pancreatitis and it presents with abdominal pain that radiates to back. You can get serum amylase and lipase test done to see whether you have pancreatitis. ( Pancreatitis is not the same as pancreatic cancer..so do not worry).
You can continue with the medications you are taking now.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Ok , but from what I am describing to you .... You would say this is probably a Gerd ... Flair up ?.. It has gotten better since Saturday ... and I am not in any great pain ... Even after I eat which if I am not mistaken is symptoms of pancreatitis .

Hi,
Yes it is a flare up of GERD.
The pepsid and the aciphex you are taking might be responsible for the improvement of symptoms.
Pancreatitis is just a possibility as the pain occurred after drinking alcohol and it radiated to back. That is the reason why I told you to get serum amylase and lipase done.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
