So I have been diagnosed with itp since I was five . I ate an apple with chemicals . According to my hematologist at that time said that the problem was my spleen so because I was too young removing the spleen was not an option. To make a long story short, two months ago I for the forth time I was admitted to the hospital because my platelets decreased to four thousand so I had introvinus hemoglobins for 5 days, left the hospital with 211 thousand . Last month had blood work on 3/23 my platelets were 175 then last Friday went back for blood work and it's 11,ooo . I have been taking promacta. My question is do you think this is a spleen or bone marrow issue?
Thank you
Thank you
Brief Answer:
It is not bone marrow problems.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
You have chronic ITP. Very low platelets are common in ITP.
It is not bone marrow problem at all. Your bonemarrow is producing platelet normally. But you have auto immunity. So your body consider your own platelets as foreign particles. So your immunity destructs your own platelets. It is the problem.
Splenectomy is helpful in this condition.
Otherwise steroids is the drug of choice. Intravenous immunoglobulin can be helpful.
Consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
