What Causes Inability To Walk Short Distances Without Breathlessness In A Smoker?

Question: My husband, at 62, has been A lifelong smoker, 2 packs a day. Also drinking. He suddenly couldn't breathe right, Can't walk short distances without getting out out breath. This has been for several days, I'm not sure if this can wait for a Dr or is more serious, he can't even smoke! Which is good, but I'm wondering if I should do something faster?
Brief Answer:
Refer to ER
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,
I would advise you to refer to ER. If he developed complaints abruptly then acute heart or lung condition is possible.
They will check lungs, perform electrocardiogram and some analyses. In case there is nothing acute and serious you can wait until your appointment will your doctor, but if there is an acute disease, immediate treatment and interventions may needed.
Hope I could help you
Wishing a good health to your husband
