What Causes Increased Drooping Of The Eyelids While Treating Crohn's Disease?
I have received the blood tests back for Myasthenia Gravis and it was negative.
However not only is my right eye and eyebrow drooping severely but my left eye is now being affected with droopiness as well.
I notice when I wash my face with warm water the worst eyelid ( right) will completely close but if I then put ice on it the eyelid opens - not fully but at least a little to see with.
I went to the Eye Specialist yesterday and she said the Tear Deficiency in my eyes is a 5 when normal should be a 15 to 20. The Eye specialist put in antisetic to check my eyes and today the right eye is completely closed , opening a little late this afternoon a tiny bit, also the left eye closed more than usual. As I have Chrons I noticed the last time they gave me a antisetic /sedation for the colonoscopy my eyes were their worst after that procedure as well.
Could sedation actually affect the eyelid ? The eye Specialist has said to me to put drops in my eyes every half hour and also put a cream in them at night. I am to return in 3 months and call her if more happens that is adverse to the situation as now. Further bloods tests are being undertaken for other auto immune diseases seeing I have Chrons she thinks I could be open to another auto immune disease but didn't say which. It just seems to be taking such a long time to resolve. I cannot get into a Neurologist till the 1st August seeing there is a shortage of Neurologists in Australia. You can wait up to 6 months .
Yes sedation can worsen droping

Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
First of all I do not think negative blood test completely rules out the possibility of mysthenia gravis as test for anticholinergic antibodies have sensitivity of just 70-80% and you need to ask for further testing as symptoms strongly indicate possibility of mysthenia gravis.
Now regarding worsened dropping following sedation is well documented event. I will also request you to name the eye drop which could probably the cause for worsening.
Presence of chrohns disease definitely makes you more vulnerable to other autoimmune disease which includes mysthenia gravis.
I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.
if it is Myasthenia Gravis would that be why my eyes can be slightly open sometimes and totally closed at other times of the day.? It seems to flucturate
Often it worsens with progress of the day

Hello,
Thanks for follow up.
Fortunately both the eye drop and cream are not responsible for worsening of drooping of eye lid.
Regarding Myasthenia Gravis most patients report some fluctuation over the day however there is increased drooping as the days passes. I mean to say that person feels better during early morning but during evening hours it becomes next to impossible to move the affected muscles.
In case your fluctuations do not meet above criteria we need to look for other autoimmune diseases as cause of drooping.
I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards..
