Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Hi,
About 2 months ago I noticed my heart rate has increased a lot. It's usually around 95-105 resting. I did get a ekg done about 2 months ago and it was normal. I do feel my heart racing/pounding also more ofte . Should I be worried at all if the ekg was normal? I am also 23 year old female. My resting f pulse used to be around 75-80.

Brief Answer:
I recommend performing some tests to find out the possible causes

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question and understand your concern.

Your symptoms may be related to anxiety, but a thyroid dysfunction, a chronic anemia, electrolyte imbalance, chronic lung disease, or even an intrinsic cardiac dysfunction, could also be the cause of increased heart rate.

Tachycardia is usually defined as a HR > 100bpm.

I recommend consulting with the GP for a careful physical examination, performing a routine blood test, a resting ECG, a chest x ray, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes and thyroid hormone levels, to perform a differential diagnosis between the above mentioned disorders.

An ambulatory 24 hours ECG monitoring and a cardiac ultrasound may be necessary to examine the intrinsic heart electric function, if suspicions are raised during the above tests.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
