What Causes Increased Pressure In Ball Of Foot After Hip Replacement Surgery?

Question: hi , the ball of my right foot feels raw like, when I'm walking it kind of feels like my sock is crumpled and causing discomfort in my shoe. I had a total right hip replacement and it was after this that i noticed this sensation. What do you think it could be ?
Brief Answer:
after surgery there can be weight distribution changes
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am sorry that you are having this problem. It is possible that after your hip surgery your weight distribution on the foot changed causing increased pressure on the ball of your foot. You could try some inserts with a good arch support to try and redistribute the weight. If that does not work then see a podiatrist. They may be able to help you with an orthotic to redistribute the weight. Other things that may cause pain in that area are gout, bunions and plantar warts. All of these could be diagnosed by a primary care doctor or a podiatrist.
I hope you get some relief soon.

Dr. Robinson

Thanks for replying, i was thinking more to do with nerve damage related to hip replacement as it is a sensation rather than anything visible i.e. wart or bunion. its like a blister burny feeling just in the area to the right of the ball of foot .
Brief Answer:
it is possible
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the follow up. I did not think of nerve damage first because of the description of it feeling like you were walking on a balled up sock. However, if it is a burning sensation then it definitely could be some sort of nerve damage from the time of surgery. Whenever a surgery is done nerves are cut and usually they grow back over the next 6-8 months. There are medications to treat nerve pain. If the pain is severe I suggest that you see your doctor for evaluation. Also there are tests that neurologist may do called nerve conduction studies that could determine if you had nerve damage and the extent of that damage.
