What Causes Increased Pulse Rate After Tendon Reattachment Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jun 2016
Question: Is it normal to have an increase pulse rate after surgery? I had a quadriceps tendon reattachment surgery a week ago. My pulse rate has been consistently in the high 80's. My usual rate before surgery was low to mid 70's. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry, however routine and timely follow-up to continue..

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, Welcome to HCM,

I've gone through your question and understand your concern,

Now after going through your medications list , considering your age , I should inform you that this range of heart rate is not usual.. so just relax..

Now surgery of mild - mod. invasive, always includes some complications at their part, it's good that that part is taken care of..

Now one thing about our Heart rate is , if we become too much aware of it it'll go up simultaneously (the Sympathetic response of body), also if there's any kind of stress like pain(the commonest form of stress), dehydration, fear, anxiety -anything can raise the heart-rate above it's baseline(as you've mentioned as your baseline used to be in 70's), so try to find out what it is which may be causing this in your case then you yourself can cure it..

Get Well soon, my best regards..

Let me know if there's any further queries in this aspect.. I'll be glad to clarify..

Kind Regards

Thank you Dr. Banerjee for your insights and comments. I am focusing more on going one day at a time. My pulse rate is dropping more often now to the high 70's and sometimes to the mid 70's, so I am already feeling less anxious. I appreciate your help. Sincerely, XXXXXXX White
