What Causes Increased Thirst In A Person With Anxiety And Bipolar Disorder?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: Hello: I have overheated easily since I was a child. I am currently 31 years old and am a female. I wonder why, if I drink several short glasses of water it does nothing to quinch my thirst, but if I drink only one glass of orange juice my thirst is satisfied. This is odd to me that water is supposed to be used to rehydrate but seems not to work for me but juice does. I am not diabetic. The only health conditions I have are: Leebers Congenital Amerosis (causes congenital blindness), anxiety attacks that cause hot flashes, and bipolar disorder. I have only started taking medications for the Psychiatric conditions in the last few years so I don't think that has anything to do with the overheating easily but it might. What do you think I should do and what do you think is going on?

I understand your query and concern.

Your symptoms could be related to Anxiety.

Hi: Thank you for your response. I have had thyroid checks done and blood sugar checks...all tests have come back normal...might it have someting to do with Leebers Congenital Amerosis, a genetic condition that causes my blindness?

Brief Answer:
Home based rehydration methods will be helpful at the moment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

Welcome again,

I understand your query and concern.

Since all your reports are normal ,your symptoms could be related to your Anxiety and also could be side effects of drugs you are taking.

So Do not worry, continue with your present medication.

Home based rehydration therapy is advisable in your case.

Take 4-5 litres of water everyday irrespective of your thirst.

Also take fruit juices for every half an hour.

Avoid stress and anxiety.

Get your serum electrolytes checked for every 3 months to correct electrolyte abnormality if any.

Your symptoms will subside in 3- 6 months.

Get your eye check up periodically without fail.

Post your further queries if any,

Thank you.
