Brief Answer:
Change in antibiotics after consulting with your physician

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Rifaximin doesn't treat all diarrheal diseases, especially those with blood.

I recommend :
- a physician consult
- stool test (too check for ovarian, cysts) and a stool culture.
- plenty of water. Hydration is important. If your urine is dark or reduced in quantity - you are not drinking enough
- 200 ml of oral rehydration solution (ors) after every loose stool.
- probiotics should be taken 4 hrs after antibiotics.
- soft bland diet.
- avoid sugar, carbonated and caffeinated drinks.
-avoid spicy food
- take a zinc supplement (zincovit) once a day
- racecadotil is your stools are watery and more than 6 a day (1 tablet 3 times a day till stool frequency reduces to twice and water content reduces by 75%).
- antibiotics need to be changed to improve coverage of organisms (norfloxacin- tinidazole combination 1 tablet twice a day ). This or Similar needs to be prescribed by your doctor after examining you.

If you are allergic to any medications, have any other health issues, or take any other medications, these need to be assessed before you start on any new medications.

If you develop severe abdominal pain, bloating, no stools or passing of blood and mucus without fecal matter, see your doctor immediately or visit the ER to check for bowel obstruction which can complicate diarrhea sometimes.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
