Question: I was told that I may have herpes(10% chance from over washing my vagina with a harsh sponge. I take one shower a day and I vigorously was vagina with dove or aveno soup and a sponge I keep in shower. I also do an increased number of laudries lately with knew detergent. I saw a thin cut near opening of vagina on Tuesday. I had minor discomfort. It did not hurt a lot of look really red but it was a little swollen. It looked like a paper cut. I have been in sun, too. Since then burning and itching increased on outside only. No burning when I pee. Is it highly possible? No sexual contact in 2 1/2 years in menapause, also. Always used condoms, prior 3 years. Do get cancersaurs in mouth, never had a cold sore though.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

The symptoms you are experiencing is likely due to secondary infection of the vaginal tear due to overeating.

Herpes is a less likely possibility. Herpes can remain dormant in your system.for many years and get reactivated in situations of stress, illness etc.

Given your history, a bacterial infection of vaginal traumatic cut is more likely than herpes infection.
However, the only way to confirm the diagnosis is by vaginal examination and doing a culture of the vaginal swab.

Please be advised to follow up with your doctor for the culture results.

Meanwhile, cold compress and cold baths can relieve pain. You can take Tylenol or Advil to reduce pain and inflammation. Do not scratch the genital area. Wash the genital area gently with mild soap and water. Wear loose fitting breathable cotton undergarments.

It would also be really helpful if you please provide details regarding what all oral and topical medications your doctor(Gynec) prescribed so that I can give you more information in that aspect.

Awaiting...

Regards
Dr.Lekshmi
