What Causes Inflammation Of The Gall Bladder Radiating Towards Back?
Question: Good evening. About a week ago, I had a gallbladder attack in the middle of the night that seemed to devolve into a constant ache in the middle of my back. The pain worsened when I took a deep breath or put a backpack on. Today, I picked up my 35-pound nephew and was nearly crippled with pain. Now the pain has returned to an ache, but with certain movements the pain intensifies - dead center in my back alompng my spine. I know that I have a gallstone and I am already working with a doctor,, but it is 11pm on Thanksgiving. My question is this: can gallbladder pain be exacerbated by movement and I am experiencing referred pain? (I have no recollection of hurting my back and I have no history of back problems.)
Brief Answer:
The pain can indeed be crippling. You need surgery at the earliest.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
What you describe seems consistent with acute cholecystitis which is caused due to inflammation of the gall bladder. The pain can indeed get radiated and referred but without proper examination and investigation it is hard to comment whether a component of pancreatitis is involved as well. Movement can often lead to exacertation of such pains.
Let me know if I could help further.
