What Causes Insomnia Despite Taking Ambien While Treating Depression?

Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2016
Question: Hi I suffer from depression and anxiety disorder and I live in a little town with not a lot of options for health care. My doc has me on these meds and I'm a little nervous about it. I take Wellbutrin 300mg Prozac 40 mg for depression. I take those in am along with eemt for hormone replacement. As I had total hysterectomy I also take levothyroxin for thyroid disorder. All in am. I take Klonopin1mg 2 tab 3 times a day. Ativan 1mg 1 tab 3 times a day. Vistaril 25mg 1 tab 4 times a day. I also take ambien 10 mg to sleep at night. None of these make me tired and on average I get anywhere from 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night. I should not say I'm not tire because I'm dragging ass every right around 2 or 3 pm but can't sleep still. Any insights here? The nearest big town is 6 hours from where I live. So not too many options. I'm just afraid this is too much and I'm just not going to wake up some morning!!!

Brief Answer:
Seroquel.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your details. I understand your concerns.
I think you are taking too many drugs. But as you mention that you are still unable to get sound sleep. I think you have developed tolerance to Benzos.

In such cases, where the Benzos are not working well, I usually advice my patients to take drugs like Seroquel (prescription drug). I has broad spectrum of action and acts as anti-anxiety, antidepressant and a sleep inducing drug.

Other than this, relaxation exercises like meditation and deep breathing daily can help you to keep yourself calm. This will further improve your sleep.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to discuss further.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Not lethal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
One lorazepam, clonazepam, vistaril and ambient will not kill you. Do not worry about that.
But as I mentioned earlier that you might have developed tolerance to the drugs, you should discuss with your doctor about finding alternative drugs to help you sleep.

Seroquel is one of them. Remeron is another (prescription drugs).

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
