What Causes Intense Groin Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Apr 2014
Question: If you can. I have intense groin pain mostly on the left side, am struggling to walk. Hip xrays are fine. no signs of arthritis. Had serious adhesions removed 9 months ago to try and free up whatever is causing the pain. It started as just a sharp pain that would almost drop me to the ground now it is there all the time. Day and night. I cannot stand up from a chair without having to grab something for support, then waddle like a duck to get where I am going. Quite frankly I am over this 6 months of continues agony and no results. Am thinking of having Prolotherapy, Chiro doesn't seem to work any more, pain killers definitely don't work. Brufen 2000mg should deaden it but nope so now i am desperate. What is and how do i fix it. I am 62 yrs old, weight 65kg and are 152cm tall. I eat healthy food, drink water but not a lot and now cannot exercise or even clean the house properly. Catch 22

Brief Answer: Trough medical check up /expert's advice will help Detailed Answer: Hi, Every one longs to be on one's feet & self sufficient through out life. I am sorry to note, that the condition you are undergoing is making you helpless, painful. Please don't worry; proper evaluation of condition will open a path of hope for you. It seems there is no joint involvement of hip joint from x ray report. Still I would suggest getting CT scan/MRI of left hip joint to exclude problem with nearby muscles/tendons causing the pain. Besides the joint there are few other possibilities such as nerve kinking/pressure. Femoral nerve is the one which supplies leg & possible cause for your problem may be- -injury to nerve (accident), -faulty posture, problems due to improper gate - Pressure on the nerve due to underlying tumors, hernia( Ultrasonography of lower abdomen will help to note) -Kinking of nerve -at spinal level / at sciatic foramin - Pyriformis muscle problem(MRI / electromyography) - Nerve involvement due to Diabetes, In my opinion you need to consult an orthopedic doctor who will order for -Blood sugar, Serum calcium/Vitamin D, X-ray spine, MRI / CT scan electromyopathy. Your treatment can be planned based on these tests. In the interim I would start you on Vitamin B12 suppliments, calcium & vitamin D supplement. Ibuprofen or any other prescription pain medicine can be continued briefly. Once pain is controlled physiotherapy can be advised. Surgery is indicated in case of spinal problems. There are many other possible causes for the pain you have, but looking at your history & age I feel you are more likely to have the condition I have mentioned. I hope you find the answer helpful Please do not hesitate to ask any further query. Thanks.
