What Causes Intense Itching In The Ear After Ear Surgery?

Question: Had total eardrum replacement last December and was told my new eardrum has healed beautifully. Problem is I have intense itching in the ear for the last two months and my doctor can't tell me what causes the itching but told me to drop once a day 50% alcohol & 50% vinegar (swimmer's ear treatment) and it doesn't help. I've been back to see the doc and the nurse a few times. No new treatment has been suggested. The itching can be very intense specially when lying down at night and trying to sleep.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having diffuse otitis externa (swimmer's ear) which is common after ear surgery.

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you
Antihistaminic Fexofenadine Tab Allegra at night to decrease itching ,
Keep ear dry , don’t allow water go inside while bath ,
don't itch inside ear use ear drop like ciplox D / Neoporin H ear drop 2 drops thrice daily .

You will get relief .
