Question: hello doctor,my mother was having on and off mild fever for last one week with cold too.since two days she has got some allergic reaction bumps all over the body ,swelling on face with itching ,she has a history of such allergic reaction.doctors are suggesting that it may be due to allergy.yesterday we have admitted to hospital doctor has given her a bottle of blood and few injection suggesting us to show her outside our town where good facilities are there.i am afraid that in case of negligence or lack of proper medication can worsen the things.as per you what could be the reason swelling hasn't subsided and whole face has swelled up ,swelling is increasing in hands too.please suggest blood test has been done haemoglobin is 7.8, total WBC COUNT IS 13000,differential count is in between permissible levels , RBC INDICES : RBC COUNT IS 3.19mill/cumm,HCT IS 29,MCV -91.1,MCH-24.4,MCHC-26.8 PLATELETS INDICES : platelets count 2,72,000 , MP BY KIT(antigen) negative ,blood sugar (random) 114.1 total bilirubin 1.3 ; SGPT 112 U/L .

Brief Answer:
Allergic reactions(angioedema and urticaria)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
I have gone through her photographs. It appears that she has developed allergic reactions in the form of angioedema and urticaria. There many allergens .It is difficult to say to which particular agent she is allergic. However treatment will remain as anti-histaminincs e.g levocetrizine,H2 receptor antagonist e.g ranitidine and a short course of cortico steroids e.g prednisolone. She will recover with that.A course of antibiotic is justified as her total WBC count is high. Please get her urine routine analysis done and if indicative of infection say pus cells > 5 /hpf,get urine culture and sensitivity tests also. Get her blood sugar Fasting & PP, and thyroid function tests such as serumT3,T4 & TSH done. Please let me know what treatment she is getting now.
