Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I am dr.Endri and i will answer at all your questions.

Usually colon gives pain all over the body, but there are some times when you feel the pain in the lower or upper right quadrant and it depends from the amount og gas in your colon.

It would be great if you gave me more information.
What kind of problems are you having? Is it pain? Flatulance?Nausea?Do you have any problems with passing stools or gas?

When did you have the surgery for the gallblader? Did you have gallstones?

Awaiting....

My pain started on the right side after I urinated and I was sure I was having a recurrence of kidney stones. The doctor agreed because I had had an gall bladder removal in1986.The doctor did a cat scan and she said nothing showed up on the fray. I can't believe that nothing is there!!

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Cat scan is one of the best exams that a patient might do. Since it nothing showed up,it is a good sign so nothing to be worried.

A possibility is that sludge (concentrated bile) passed in your common hepatic duct through your ampula of Vater and gave inflamation of the ampula and you felt the pain under the ribs that went at your back. Usually once sludge passes, there is not a problem any more.

But since you do not have any more symptoms, there is nothing to be worried.

If you have any other question, feel free to contact me.

Regarts.

The pain continues on the right side on and off. Usually after a large bowl movement. It will hurt for 3-4 days and then just go away. It does seem to happen around the time I would have had my period and the same time I might have ovulated. Please try to find an answer for me!!!!

Brief Answer:
Adhesions...

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Your CT scan showed no significal problems.
Since this symptoms starts after a large bowel movement, probably this is happening due to adhesions of large bowel (colon) in the right upper quadrant.

Adhesions are fibrous bands of scar tissue that form between internal organs and tissues, joining them together abnormally. After each surgery adhesions are formed.

Since you have removed your gallbladder probably you have adhesions of your colon in the right upper quadrant.

In this case diet is the solution.
-have plenty of water
-fresh fruits and vegetables,especially kiwi,prune
-low fat diet
-avoid drinks that contain gas like sodas
-avoid beens and all the food that gives you gas

This way your stools will be soften and will be easier for stools to pass through colon and will not feel so much pain.

If your pain persists even if you do the changes in diet, than probably it is a good idea to do a colonoscopy to check your right colon.

Wishing you good health.
