Question: Hello Sir,
15 days back I visit doctor with an issue with lower abdominal pain/irritation and lose motion. My doctor said it's due to certain food I possible got intestine infection. He put me on Providac + colirid 40mg for 7 days. He has also prescribed me antibiotic oflox oz which he asked me to use it if symptoms don't improve with 4 days. During the course of medication my symptoms were getting up & down, and I was feeling alright occasionally. Just 4 days back I had also finished my antibiotic course. As of today I haven't completely got improvement from my lower abdomen irritation. It happens intermittently as sharp pain and I feel like going to motion. I'm really scared that this is nothing serious, than an intestine infection. However, I wanted to consult with you to take advice for further treatment.

Currently, I'm going through following symptoms.
1. lower abdomen irritation - this happens intermittently.
2. My motions are ok with no bleeding.
3. There is no pain to the upper abdomen.

My doctor also said this could also be a symptom of IBS(Irretable Bowl Syndrome). However, please suggest me what should I do now as I'm really scared and don't know what should I do at this moment.

Brief Answer:
Sensitive intestine

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query. I understand your concern.

Looks like there is not much to worry. Possibly you have a sensitive intestine causing this irritation. Also if endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy were normal recently all the reason as not to worry. Can get your stools examined for three days to look for some infection. Also worthwhile getting your thyroid function and CBC, ESR, CRP done to look for other causes.

But in addition to continuation of medications need to try following things and see how you feel
increase dietary fibre intake
Take plenty of liquids orally. Drink cleaner water.
Go for regular walk
Exercise regularly
Avoid stress
Sleep adequately for 8 hours at least

Hope this answers your query
happy to help
best wishes

Thanks for your response doctor. Really appreciated.

I have gone through antibiotics for 5 days already. Still there could be a possibility of infection in my stool? If yes, what could be the reason.

I have gone through sigmoidoscopy in the month of Nov last year. And, diagnosis were OK except the fissuer for which I took treatment. If sigmoidoscopy came normal, can we except that my long intestine is ok and there couldn't be any sign of tumor?

Also, the irritation which I was referring to the lower abdomen is actually occurs at the center of lower abdomen. Sometimes I don't feel pain at all, but sometime irritations starts like sharp pain on its own, and settles down to some extent after sometime. Also, I do have days when I don't feel any irritations at all and days go smoothly. Please advise if you still think this is due to sensitive intestine or IBS.

I've been think about this every time and gets scared most of the time. Therefore, I'm sharing all these with you to get some advice which can give some relief.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Hi

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Don't worry so much

Some infection s may not be treated with antibiotics hence worthwhile getting stool examination done.

Tumor is unlikely.

Could be an sensitive intestine and thinking makes it worse so you need to stop thinking too much about it

Best wishes
