What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Legs While On Evion And Ecosprin?

I am a 82 year old male. I have been having an intermittent pain on some days ( at any time of the day) in both my legs for the last one year. The pain is mainly in calf region. The calf region is stone hard. There is no discoloration and no part is swollen. The pain aggravates if I walk or stand for long period as I am an advocate by profession. Once triggered it does not subside for hours even if I lie flat on the bed. If I try to stretch my leg I get a muscle catch. I have undergone angioplasty in 2014. I am non diabetic, spiritual and have an overall good health. I have no vices. Currently I am not taking any medication for this pain except the ones prescribed by my doctors post my surgery. These are tab Evion 400 ; Ecosprin and TelvasH40
Could be spinal canal stenosis, vit D deficiency or varicose veins.
Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
The leg pain you are having intermittently , which increases on prolonged standing and walking , in my opinion is due to
1. Spinal Canal stenosis : In this condition there is pressure on the spinal cord due to narrowing of passage in spinal canal. Typically the pain Increases by walking or prolonged standing and goes off on rest. If it does not go off on rest - it is unlikely to be due to spinal canal stenosis.
2. Deficiency of vitamin D- It is a very common problem . You get pain in calf muscles which takes time to get back to normal.
3. Electrolyte imbalance : Similar features as above causing cramps.
4. Varicose veins- can cause similar pain and the pain may last for sometime.
I suggest you get MRI Lumbo sacral spine ,S VIt D3 , S Electrolytes, and Color Doppler for venous system.
The treatment will depend on the diagnosis.
Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.

Reports suggestive of secondary spinal canal stenosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per reports attached , particularly MRI and Color Doppler- He is having multiple level disc prolapse with degenerative changes and nerve pressure, leading to secondary canal stenosis.
For this diffuse problem I would advise conservative management like pain killers , muscle relaxants and pregabalin. A lumbar belt will also help in relieving pain.
However I would still suggest you get bone densitometry and S vit D3 done and let us know the report.
S Amylase at this point of time is not related to the problem concerned.
Thanks for the question.
