What Causes Involuntary Jerks Of The Head While On Cyclobenzaprine And Motrin For Bulging Disc L5-S1?

Question: I have recently been diagnosed with a bulging disc. L5-S1. It is very painful as it is pressing on a nerve. I am only taking motrin for it and at night I have been taking a muscle relaxant:cyclobenzadine. It has helped - just one tablet at night. However, last night I noticed that I woke up several times with involuntary head jerks and it frightened me. Could this be a side effect of the medication or is it anxiety or something else? I intent to stop taking the one tablet tonight and see what happens.
Brief Answer:
Possible drug side effect
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Involuntary head jerks can be due to many serious causes, however, in your case, given that it is a recent development, it is more likely to be a side effect of the muscle relaxant you are taking.
As a matter of fact, although rare, involuntary quivering is a side effect of Cyclobenzaprine, therefore I agree with your decision to stop taking the drug for a while and see your doctor for a better drug alternative.
If the head jerks continue, I recommend you see a neurologist for an examination and further testing.
I hope this helps.
