What Causes Irregular Heart Beat And Low Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: why is my cardiologist not concerned about my irregular heart beat and heart rate being between 48 and 58 when resting bpm my blood pressure is about 100/60 when resting. He has ran several tests ECG Echo and I just brought back a monitor today for irregular beats. Can you have a resting heart beat in those zones, I don't have shortness of breath or chest pain so I guess he is not concerned. I can get my heart rate up to 125 to 160 after walking for a half an hour but have irregular heart beats for about a half hour. Do you think this is life threating or can they correct it by drugs or surgery. I am 58 going on 59 and take coversyl plus for blood pressure because it has a diuretic in it can it cause a low and irregular heart beat

Thanks,

doctor

Brief Answer:
Your arrhythmia isn't life-threatening and you shouldn't worry...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your resting HR is 48-58 bpm which is within accepted limits and unless you have dyspnea or lightheaded feeling you shouldn't worry about that.

What concerns me is the fact that your HR go above 125 bpm during physical activities. This fact shows that your training capacity is low and it's very common in people like you to experience premature ectopic beats and palpitations.

You shouldn't worry about those irregular arrhythmia they aren't life-threatening. You should use the monitor to detect and record your arrhythmia. However if you were my patient I would recommend to do a holter monitoring which is more professional to find out what type of arrhythmia you are experiencing.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
