What Causes Irregular Menstruation Post Skyla IUD Insertion?
Question: This is a question for a gyno.
I had the XXXXXXX IUD inserted during my menstrual cycle on May 18. That was about 2-3 days into my cycle and had been taking Yaz until that pack ran out (a few days before my insertion). My first period on the IUD would have been mid-June on a normal cycle period, but it's now almost July and no period (so it's been 6 weeks with no true period). I did have spotting the first two weeks after insertion, but no actual period. I took a test a few days after my period was due in mid-June, and it was negative. I am EXTREMELY, extremely sensitive to any kind of hormone change, so given that i have had no hormonal changes and actually have lost weight and have less of an appetite, I dont think I am pregnant, but at the same time, I read that missed periods on XXXXXXX is extremely rare, especially before the first year. Could I just be irregular on Skyla? (Hoping so because I get married in less than 3 months!)

Brief Answer:
Common phenomenon after IUD insertion
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand the anxiety related to the issue.
I'm Dr Manisha Jain and I will be answering your question. XXXXXXX is a levonorgestrel releasing IUD which is a progesterone so being a hormone it always causes menstrual irregularities after insertion.
I don't know your source of information but in our textbooks and according to my clinical experience so far it is very common to have irregular periods in first few months of IUD insertion.
So all in all nothing to worry there is no risk of pregnancy and you will get back your period regularity soon.
Regards
Dr Manisha Jain.

Thanks! What happens if my period doesnt show up at all? Part of me hopes it does to ease my mind, but I certainly don't want it to XXXXXXX me on my wedding day!
Brief Answer:
Wait for periods
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, sorry for the delay in response.
That is definitely a possibility that your periods can happen on the day of your wedding.
So right now all you can do is to wait for your cycle and see the pattern for a while because you still have 3 months in hand.
Real management will be needed 20-25 days prior to the periods.
Best will be to take oral contraceptive pills from day 5 of periods and then leave them once the pack finishes.
This will make your cycle predictable.
But start pill pack only in the month preceding your marriage and once the event is covered complete the ongoing pack and then no need to take pills anymore just for contraceptive purposes as that will be taken care by IUD.
Also in case your pill pack finishes just 1-2 days prior to your marriage then can take second pill pack in continuous fashion without a break till you want so as to cover the period of marriage and honeymoon.
I know you must be feeling a little bothered but there is a possibility that your period pattern gets established soon by itself in a way which will not hinder your marriage and thus goes hassle free.
Take care
