What Causes Irregular Menstruation?

I'm a 34yr old athletically active woman with a lean physic. I'm 5'9 and about 130lbs I've had some strange cycle changes in the past couple months that concern me.. I got engaged in January and have been planning my wedding since then.
I stopped birth control a year ago October, which I was on for 18yrs. It took about 4-5 months to establish some normal cycle tendencies which begin about the 1st of the month and lasted 5 days. July was the last normal cycle month. At August 15th my cycle started again just 2 weeks after its July completion and lasted 5 days. Around September 16th my cycle started again which lasted 5 days changing my normal monthly cycle time. Once this September cycle ended its 5 day run, I had a reprieve of 2 days then it started again but this time a dark colored thick discharge of blood was present and lasting 5 days. From that time to present I've still been bleeding but using a tampon on and off. September 13th of last month I got married. We had been planning our wedding since January of this year. I know stress can make changes to my body but the bleeding seems excessive. Any input you would have would be greatly appreciated.

Get an ultrasound pelvis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
I would advise you to get an ultrasound pelvis to see the uterus and ovaries.. Sometimes incomplete abortion can present with such picture. Some ovarian cysts also present with irregular bleeding.
If scan is normal, you can take 3 cycles of OCP's to regularise your periods.. Most of them respond well with this and start to get there regular period following it..
Excessive exercise and stress is another factor which causes irregularity. Get your Hb and thyroid levels checked..
I think you neednot worry much.. This wont affect your married life or future pregnancy..
Hope I have answered your queries.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..
