Brief Answer:
Need evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ms. XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query.

Please provide the following information:

1. your menstrual calender, whether you have had any cycle disturbances in the recent past

2. if you are on any medication

3. since how long are you married, if you have had any pregnancies, any contracpetion

4. how did your cycles run throughout until marriage, did you have any treatment for that

5. any other significant relevant history.

Tentatively, I can say that if no other relevant finding is present, you should be suffering from a hormonal imbalance, provided pregnancy is excluded. So, firstly, please exclude/confirm pregnancy through a HPT or a blood test and follow it up with a trans-vaginal sonogram. A proper clinical evaluation by a specialist should follow.

If pregnancy is excluded, a complete hormone profile should be done. Menstrual disturbances can be due to several factors like sudden weight changes, stress, infections, certain medications and hormone disorders. Therefore, further management should be targeted toward the specific cause.

Maintenance of a healthy weight, healthy diet and regular exercise help a lot in the management.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.

hello doctor,

its been 7 months i am married and i am 30...my menstrual cycle had been irregular before also but never up to this extent. From 2012 it had been so much irregular. After marriage it was perfect up to dec but giving problem again as i still not getting my menses.i have gone through with some tests,as one of the gynecologist has suggested, she suggested to go through with ultra sound and some hormonal tests where my prolactin was high...i am not pregnant and i've tested it twice in one and half month...my doctor suggested me two medicines, one of which is named as NOVELON...before taking the pills i've read the leaflet given inside the pack and it says lots of things as the use of the pills can lead to breast cancer and some more problems...i am really worried and confused whether to take the pills or not...i really need your suggestion in this matter as i am too much worried about taking the pills.

Brief Answer:
Can take under supervision.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Please upload your reports so I can also go through them. If Prolactin levels are high, you need treatment to control the levels and once corrected, you can see regularized cycles.

Novelon is a fairly good product and you can use it under supervision. Side effects and adverse effects can occur with any medication and this is the same with Novelon also. It is not that every one using the drug will end up with one of those things mentioned in the leaflet. It is meant only to educate about the possible impact of the drug usage and so to have a keen eye when you are using such medications. In fact, millions over the world use such products daily and effects are seen only in hundreds.

During the first few cycles you may notice some menstrual irregularities which settle down later. If you have any unwanted symptoms while on the medication, you should report immediately to your consultant. Periodic check up also is necessary.

This medication is meant to regularize the cycles and along with anti-prolactin treatment, will correct your problem. Ovulation is however, suppressed with Novelon. If you are anxious to conceive, you may try after the cycles are regularized and ovulation is established. Induction of ovulation may not be necessary.

Hope your query has been answered. Please get back if you need any more clarifications. I will be available to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
