What Causes Irregular Pattern Of Menstrual Cycle And Hypomenorrhoea After An Abortion?

Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: Hi,
I am 34 years female.
I had a missed abortion in the month of February 2015.
I was on following medicines until December 2015
Fertisure -f
Ovygyn DSR 75
CCQ 50 (from 3rd to 8th day of the cycle)
Gestofit 300 (from 16th day of the cycle for 10 days).
I have stopped all these medicines and started taking only MCBM 69 daily and Siphene -100 mg (2nd day to 6th day of the cycle). This month I had follicular study done and the follicle was ruptured.
But I have got my periods on 36 th day.
The problem with me now is that after stopping all those medicines, I am getting my periods after 34 days and apart from that since last month the flow is very less and brownish in colour.
This is really worrying me as it is high time for me to conceive. Please help me in this regard

Brief Answer:
Hormonal causes should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Increased length of menstrual cycles are usually due to hormonal disturbances like hypothyroidism, hyperprolactemia or polycystic ovarian disease.
These medications, which you were taking are unlikely to cause any disturbances in menstrual cycle.
I will suggest you to get your hormonal profile done including thyroid hormone levels and prolactin levels and ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis and get appropriate treatment timely.
All these hormonal disturbances also lead to difficulty in conceiving also.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hello mam,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have got the hormonal profile test in October 2014 and then everything was normal. However I will repeat the tests if required.
Do I have to take those tests on any particular day of the cycle?
What is causing worry is I am feeling that I would get menopause.
My mom got her menopause after 45 and my siblings who are above 38 are also still menstruating. This thought is often in my mind now. Please clarify

Brief Answer:
FSH

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, it is unlikely that you will get menopause so early, if you are having your periods regularly.
However, to rule out this, you can get your FSH levels done.
These tests should be done on day 2 of the cycle, preferably empty stomach.
