What Causes Irritating And Itchy Blisters In Genital Area?

Question: I am a 51 year old white female post menopausal. About 3 months ago I developed some irritation and t blisters on my right genital area. It is very itchy and feels like something under the skin. I've tried cortisone creams and vagisil creams. It will heal up for a little while but then the itching will come back. I keep this area shaved and when the hair starts to grow back it makes the condition worse. I am concerned that I might have a std or maybe just shingles however it is not spreading. It is on my right genital and the inside of my leg next to my genital.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
As per the facts you have posted here,I will want to rule out the possibility of fungal infection and herpes first.
But for that,I will need to inspect the lesion.Without clinical inspection,it is very difficult to comment on that.
So,if possible kindly provide me picture of the itchy and blister area.I will guide you accordingly after that.
Awaiting for picture.

Picture attached
Brief Answer:
Likley fungal infection or deramtitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting picture and I have seen if carefully.
From the picture,it more looks to be having a fungal infection or might be dermatitis but very unlikely due to herpes or even STDs. So I would suggest you NOT to worry about shingles or STD at this point of time.
Proper application of steroid (like cortisone) in combination with anti-fungal agents would be helpful to get rid off.
For that,it would be better to see dermatologist. He will prescribe you appropriate course of treatment.
So,choosing a proper treatment for required duration of time with gradual withdrawal of such drugs will prevent the chances of recurrence which is your main problem here.
Further,I will advise you NOT to use razor to remove genital hair if you do so.
Hair removing cream would be a better choice.
Keep that area dry and avoid moisture.
Hope this helps.

Can you recommend an otc medicine? I have used Vagisil and Cortisone
Brief Answer:
You can try canesten plus.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome again,
You can try Canesten Plus which is a combination of steroid (Hydrocortisone) and anti-fungal (Clotrimazole). You can ask to some nearby pharmacy if there is any other brand name of this combination available or not.
Regular twice daily application will be helpful but it would be advisable to take this under doctor's guidance.
Take OTC antihistamine like Tab Cetirizine 10 mg or Allegra 120mg for itching.
