Brief Answer:
Chronic Cough

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to read that you have had a chronic chough for over 1 year.

There are several causes that can cause a chronic cough. The first thing I look for is medication that can cause cough. There is a class of medication called ACE inhibitors that cause a cough. You may known the medication as enalapril or lisinopril. If you are taking these medication then I recommend that you talk to your doctor to change you medication.

Another cause of cough is acid reflux. If you are at all overweight or over eat then acid from your stomach can migrate up into your throat and cause a irritating cough. You can help reduce the cough from acid reflux by eating smaller meals, elevate the head of your bed to keep acid down and try acid reducers like Prilosec, zantac or Maalox/Mylanta.

Despite you not having a history of smoking you could have been exposed to enough smoke in you life to cause COPD or asthma. You may need additional xrays from you doctor or testing to determine if you have any lung problems

Also a chronic sins infection or allergic rhinitis may cause a persistent cough. There are over the counter medication fro allergies or a nasal steroid spray called Flonase that may reduce post nasal drip and help reduce that cough
In summary
1. Possible medication ACE inhibitor
2. Chronic acid reflux
3. Use Prilosec, Zantac or Maalox/Mylanta
4. Possible Asthma
5. Post nasal drip from Allergic rhinitis or chronic sinus infection
6. Try antihistamine or nasal steroid spray
