What Causes Itchiness And Irritation In Legs, Arms And Chest?

Question: My wife has just come from China. She likes to swim in the L.A.Fitness club pool. Her skin has been itchy and irritated especially on arms, legs, and chest. We tried Cortisone creams and presnidon(?) prescribed by a doctor, but they haven't stopped the bad itching. what can you suggest....should we find a dermatologist?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Brief Answer:
see primary care doctor first
Detailed Answer:
Hello and I am sorry that she is having this problem.
She should first see her primary care doctor for an exam and blood tests. If she has anything causing liver irritation she could have itching from that. The first thing to do is to make sure her liver blood tests are normal. Then if her blood tests are normal and the primary care doctor does not know the cause of her itching then she should see a dermatologist.
In the mean time she should keep her skin moisturized and stay as cool as possible. Heat and dry skin make itching worse.

Thank you.
Unfortunately, she doesn't have a primary doctor yet. We will be getting her green card application this week through our lawyer...we were married on 8/24 .
Meanwhile I am trying to get her on my Blue Shield 65+/Medicare insurance plan. "Obamcare" people here in California were not too helpful..
Can you suggest a skin moisturizer we can get for her? I don't know much about skin creams and she speaks almost no English, yet.
Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
sure
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good moisturizers would be eucerine cream or lubriderm. If you can get her in to see a dermatologist they may be able to do the blood liver tests. Tell her not to bathe too often as that can also dry out the skin.
