What Causes Itching All Over Body?
Question: Hello I am asking for my mother in law she was given vitamin d tablets 800iu to be taken 6 times a day plus folic acid tablets 3 times a day, she took them for a few days and then developed really bad itching all over her body it's been a month and the itching is still there, she's been to the docs a few times for it in between and they've given her tablets and creams for the itching but doesn't seem to work. How long realistically will the allergy take to clear, she's 60 and getting very depressed about it
Brief Answer:
Better to stop vitamin d3 tablet.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your mother in law's situation and problem.
She is taking vitamin d3 in very higher dose.
Ideal dose of vitamin d3 for maintenance is 250-500iu daily. Vitamin d3 is fat soluble vitamin. So excess amount can stored in fat tissue and this can cause toxicity.
This can cause itching too. So better to stop vitamin d3 tablets.
Start anti allergic and antihistamine drug combination.
Once you stop vitamin d3, usually these symptoms improve in 2-3 weeks.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your mother in law.
Thanks.
