What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation At The Tip Of Penis?
Question: Hi Doc,
I had inter course with my wife 2 days back , now I am feeling itchy and burning in my penile head not heavily. I visited the skin specialist and had a look at the private part. He asked if my wife had white discharge , I told yes. I also told him that itching sensation happens within two days of having sex with my wife for the past two times. He asked me if I had sex with another women. I told yes but with condom . He also asked if i had oral intercourse, i told yes I had an oral intercourse with a women in a spa recently. He told that he could see small white dots also. He said it could be a fungal infection and may be herpes. But did not confirm of herpes
Do I real have herpes.?
Can it be treated or life threatening?
Which blood test should I do confirm if I have herpes. labs in XXXXXXX city please?
My wife does not have any symptoms. Do she also need to do blood test.
Is it a cause of real worry ?
I do not have blisters ?
Last time when I had itching I applied coco nut oil and it got resolved in 3- 4 days.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely fungal infection and associated inflammation. Using triple action ointment will be helpful to clear this. I would suggest ointment like surfaz SN with contents- antifungal like clotrimazole , antibacterial like neomycin and corticosteroid beclamethasone for local application. Avoid soaps and irritants to wash the genital area and instead use saline or warm water.
Herpes is most unlikely in your case as the usual presentation is burning sensation with itching and blisters. You can do herpes 1 and 2 blood test to rule out this. This is available in all major laboratories in XXXXXXX
Herpes is not life threatening but an irritating problem as once you get it recurrence is possible when immunity is low. If your wife doesn't had an attack or symptoms then no need to get tested.More than 70 percent of XXXXXXX population is positive for genital herpes. So you can understand how common it is nowadays.

Hello Doctor,
1) I had a blood test for HSV 1 & 2. Blood reports shows negative.Please have a look and confirm. One of the reading say equivocal. What does that mean.
2) I had diabetic check too. Do I have diabetics . Please confirm.
3) I have not taken any medicines given by the skin doctor. acivir 400 / alavitz-Z . Should I have to take the medicines. What are these medicines for and what are their side effects.
4) I used surfaz SN cream 3 times a day. The redness seems to have decreased, but could see dead skin peeling off from the penile head. Is it normal. How long should I use.

1. You are HSV 1 negative. Most likely HSV 2 (genital herpes) also negative. The result equivocal is doubtful. So a recheck after 4 weeks is recommended. If that is also equivocal then you are negative.
2.Your HbA1c shows a pre-diabetic stage. Hba1c shows the sugar levels in your last 3 months time. This means that you are having metabolic syndrome and prone to diabetes soon. In that case check your blood pressure and lipid profile. Blood sugar in fasting and after food also should be measured to know your sugar levels. In case cholesterol is high it should be controlled by diet , exercise or drugs if needed. Have 1 hour exercise daily. These measures help you to decrease the HbA1c level and avoid getting diabetes. Yeast infections are possible in this case also.
3. Acivir is antiviral drug acyclovir against herpes. This is given in acute attack phase of herpes to control the symptoms. I don't think it is needed for you now. You can take alavitz . It is a anti oxidant & mineral supplement.
4. Surfaz SN you can use for 7 to 10 days. Avoid soaps and irritants to wash the genital area. Use only warm water or saline and dry it. Most likely it is getting healed.
5. Your gynecologist will do swab test and give anti fungal creams or suppositories for yeast infection. Tell her that you are also using Surfaz SN. For her using intimate wash daily to maintain PH and flora is also recommended.
6. Use condoms till both of your conditions get healed.
