What Causes Itching And Swelling Of The Lips?
Question: My Dad has been experiencing swelling of the lips and red, raised, itchy and irritated spots all over his body. He has no allergies that we are aware of and we have ruled out insects such as bed bugs. He has had chicken pox previously thus it is unlikely to be that.
Brief Answer:
Anaphylaxis reaction
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your dad is currently experiencing a moderate anaphylaxis reaction. The reasons are beyond the scope of the discussion on this forum at this point. I suggest to see him at urgent care to give a steroid shot.
I fear if this reaction can progress as well to cause breathing difficulty. A shot of steroid would stop the progression sooner.
Please see a doctor quickly.

He isn't having any difficulty breathing and this has been a progressional reaction over the process of two days. It began with red rash like spots on the first day that were slightly irritated and they progressed all over his body and now on the second day his lips have become swollen.
Brief Answer:
Slow progression
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Since there are no signs of emergency you can get to a clinic for outpatient management. Still the dose of steroid needs to be given as this looks to be anaphylaxis to some agent not known now. Upon detailed history and examination it may reveal what could be the possible agent causing this reactionary malady.
