Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: Right Neck and shoulder itchiness. Constant scratching and discomfort. I have a recently dormant case of Psoriasis that manifested itself for years in my neck and behind my right ear. Then it moved to my inner right ear. I also have a burning and wet sensation in my right shoulder that comes and goes.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be Psoriasis involved in causing these symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM and I appreciate your health concerns. I have carefully reviewed your query and can establish how serious is this issue to disrupt quality of life.

In the perspective of past medical history and symptoms of recent episode, it seems to be due to exacerbated case of Psoriasis. You are doing good to apply topical agents especially the Corticosteroids but at this point of time, I will be more concerned about thorough physical examination to rule out other causes.

You need to consult a Dermatologist for evaluation and management with other topical agents and some manipulations like Ultraviolet radiation (UVB) therapy. In Psoriasis, it is best to have shower with "Oatmeal Milk and Honey Body Wash" to help reduce itching. After shower apply Petrolatum Jelly to moisturize the skin so that you don't get itching episodes.

We also need to use some keratolytic agents like salicylic acid and Urea. Methotrexate and Infliximab are some other agents found very helpful in controlling disease. Your Dermatologist can guide and prescribe you these medications according to the diagnosis. Diagnosis of Psoriasis is more clinically based and takes long time to remain on treatment. Its a multifactorial disease and may also involve joints causing pain (psoriatic arthritis). You need to discuss these aspects too with your Physician.

Stress reduction, change of climate, relaxation techniques and some days off of a fixed daily routine of life is also very helpful in getting better treatment results in many. Try meditation too. Keep a balanced and healthy diet and take plenty of fluids.

Hope it helps. Please feel free to consult me back if you need further assistance.

Regards!
