What Causes Itching In And Around Groin Creases And Whole Body After Waxing?

default
Posted on Sat, 19 Mar 2016
Question: I am 35 weeks pregnant. I have developed itch all over my body a few weeks ago. I had blood test taken and it was fine. I shaved my pubic hair not long after as I thought it will stop the itching in my pubic area. The skin around crease started to itch and burn. I thought it will go away after a few days. I showed the area to my gynaecologist, but he said thre is nothing red or inflamed. I haven't shaved now for 3 weeks and I still have this burning sensation in the crease where I shaved. I don't know if my skin is so sensitive there and re-growing hair iritates it so much? I never had this problem before pre-pregnancy. Shall I go to the salon to wax it all? I also have an itch in the hood of my clitoris. I wonder if it may anything to do with re-growing pubic hair?

Many thanks,

XXXX

Brief Answer:
I would keep a possibility of yeast/fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have read your question and I have noted your concern.

Itching in and around groin creases is most likely due to groin yeast/tinea i.e fungal infection. Groin fungal infections are common in pregnancy because of weight gain, close apposition and occlusion of groin folds causing sweat to get trapped which in turn encourages fungal growth. Moreover some patients may develop gestatinal diabetes during pregnancy which also favors fungal growth.
It don't think itching is either due to shaving or hair growing back, simply because of the long time duration sonce itching has persisted i.e 3 weeks.
Therefore I would suggest you to use a topical antifungal cream, preferably a antifungal+steroid combination cream e.g clotrimazole 1%+ hydrocortisone 1% cream. You may use it twice daily for 2 weeks.
You may take a tablet of either chlorpheniramine 4mg Or pheniramine maleate 25 mg, twice or thrice daily, for symptomatic relief from itching. These are considered to be safe in pregnancy.
These are prescription medications and I suggest you to talk to your doctor for the needful.

I have been using that steroid cream around my vulva(as prescribed by my gynaecologist) for a few days now. I always wash my hands after, but today i got a red kind of spot/rash underneath my nose and above my upper lip. Is it possible I did not wash my hands well after applying the cream and then touched that area with a bit of product? I also feel a bit of a stinging sensation around entrance of my nose. Pleasse, help. Shall I worry? How long would it take for the symptoms to go away?

Many Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload an Image

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I would suggest you to kindly upload an Image of the affected area on face so that I am able to guide you better. You may upload an Image either at "Reports Section" Or you may mail me an image (as an attachment) at YYYY@YYYY with the subject line as Attention:Dr.Kakkar.
However, I don't think that the skin condition around nose is due to contamination through hands. It could be a bacterial skin infection Or it could be a cold sore. You may use an otc topical antibacterial e.g either neosporin ointment Or mupirocin ointment, twice daily.

But is it possible that I accidently put my steroid cream around that area if I haven't washed my hands properly? Is it possible that some cream could end up in my nose. I have a habit of picking my nose when Iam stressed. If yes, is it harmful or will it go away? Sorry, to be a pain about it.
