What Causes Itching In Pubic Area?
Likely fungal genital infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
If possible you may send a picture of the itching area to confirm the diagnosis. Itching in the sexual parts is very common and might be due to a fungal infection. You may apply ointment containing clotrimazole (CANDID B Cream) in the affected areas twice a day and please apply only on the external skin outside the vagina. Usually treatment lasts from 15 days to a month. If the itching does not improve even after a month of application applying medications and following instructions then please consult a dermatologist.
If the itching is also occurring in the vagina then please consult a gynecologist for confirmation of yeast infection and take proper treatment by taking oral antifungals or vaginal preparations.
You must also take following precautions:
1. Wash your genitals and groin area twice daily with warm water.
2. Wipe genitals dry after having bath.
3. Wear loose cotton inner clothes to absorb sweat and keep the area dry.
4. Please avoid itching
Hope your query is answered.

Many causes of itching and burning in vagina
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.
I understand your situation better after you have clarified in detail.
Vaginal itching and burning can be due to certain causes:
1. Bacterial vaginosis where there is change in normal balance of bacteria in vagina.
2. Sexually transmitted infections
3. Yeast infection
4. Chemicals used in soap can cause itching and burning.
So you see if the cause of itching and burning is due to soap use then simply stopping it and using water to wash the area will help. Please avoid to rub it with fingers because nails can cause further injury to sensitive lining of vagina,
In bacterial vaginosis, besides itching, other symptoms that come with bacterial vaginosis are inflammation, burning, discharge, and a fishy-smelling odor which you have not mentioned.
Yeast infections occur when the yeast, candida, grow excessively in the vagina and vulva. Pregnancy, intercourse, antibiotics, and a weakened immune system can all make women more likely to get a yeast infection. In addition to irritation, a yeast infection will produce a thick, white, cheesy discharge and again this is not mentioned in your query.
So from the above I want to know which is the situation you best fit in before discussing treatment options available.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.
Please do not get worried.
As per medical practice, any woman having vaginal itching for the first time must go to a gynecologist and get the condition confirmed. This is because if you take the wrong medication then the condition will not get treated and you will continue to have the problem. In most occasions the cure is withing a week.
In bacterial vaginosis, the treatment is usually for 3 days or 7 days and is mainly inserting a suppository containing meteronidazole which is an antibiotic. In severe infection oral medications may be taken.
In yeast infections, you may have to take vaginal preparations of clotrimazole of miconazole which are antifungals. This treatment can be from a single day medication to a 3 day regimen depending on severity of condition.
In chemically induced itching, you may have to stop using the soap and wash you sexual organs with plain water.
As you have not mentioned about any recent sexual activity I guess you are not having a sexually transmitted infection. But if you have been sexually active then tests are needed to confirm the infection and then treatment is to be taken.
Hope your query is answered.
