What Causes Itching In The Scrotum?

Question: My 76 year-old brother was recently hospitalized for and outward infection of the groin area. It has nearly healed. However, he now suffers from internal itching of the scrotum. He has type 2 diabetes, has had his prostate removed years ago. He is a married heterosexual male. What do you feel may be causing the internal itching?
Brief Answer:
Possible fungal infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As per your description, the possibility of a fungal Infection or a polymicrobial Infection.
Such Infections are more common in elderly diabetic patients. It's advisable to consider a scrotal ultrasound and urine routine examination as a part of the intensive checkup.
I generally prescribe oral antibiotics like Cefpodoxime +/- Fluconazole to my patients with such symptoms.
Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these medications to your brother.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
