What Causes Itching Of Skin And Spreading Red Spots On Scratching?
You seem to be suffering from urticaria
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
From the description provided and pics attached, it seems that you possibly suffer from urticaria or hives.
In cases of urticaria we need to know about its duration, underlying causes and precipitating factors to treat it properly. So I would like to know
Since how long are you having it
If there is any history of fever, drug intake, gastric upset, food allergy prior to its development
If it is induced by exposure to hot or cold, severe exercise, spicy food, pressure at site of urticaria
If there is any history of other medical condition like thyroid disorder, joint pains etc.
Answer these queries so that I can advise you further with required blood investigations and treatment options.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Start oral antiallergics again.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You have chronic urticaria. In most of the cases, chronic urticaria has no underlying cause. Sometimes it is associated with autoimmune diseases and thyroid disorder. So thyroid profile should be done in patients with chronic urticaria.
Worm infestation is usually a cause of acute onset urticaria. So this cause is unlikely in your case. Also deworming can simply be done with single dose of albendazole. So please don't do enema with garlic or petrol again.
Right now you should start with combination of two antiallergics like levocetrizine 10 mg and hydroxyzine 25 mg twice daily. This should be continued for two to three weeks and then gradually depending upon response the dose can be tapered. Ideally the treatment of choice in urticaria is oral antihistamines( like cetrizine/loratidine/hydroxyzine etc). However in severe refractory cases, we may need to add oral steroids or oral methotrexate.
I understand that you are having it since long time but we have no other effective treatment option other than antiallergics. Also it should be understood that these medicines should be taken as long as urticaria persists which could vary from days to years. So the treatment should never be discontinued in between. Our basic aim in urticaria patients is to reduce the dose of medicines to lowest possible dose.
Hope this helped. Should there be a doubt please write back.
Take care

alcohol can induce flushing and urticaria..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
Alcohol can induce flushing and urticaria. In your case, if you have noticed that episode of urticaria is exacerbated by intake of alcohol then you should avoid alcohol altogether.
Any infection in body could be a cause for urticaria. So both chlamydia and worm infestation can cause urticaria. However this type of urticaria is acute urticaria. As you are having it since last 8 years, so possibly any infection is not the underlying cause of your urticaria. In my chronic urticaria patients, I do not prescribe anti worm medicines. However having said this, even if you take a dose of albendazole it wont harm you. So if you think, you may have worm infestation, you may take a dose of albendazole. The best way to rule out worm infestation would be to get a stool examination done.
Hope this helped.
