What Causes Itching On Palms, Arm, Groin And Feet?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: Hello Doctor,
For the past two days I have had an itching in my palms, arm area, groin and top of feet. Other than the palms, the itching comes and goes in various areas. There is no rash. I used antihesstimine yesterday and the itching is 50% reduced from yesterday. I am concerned if it is contagious since I will be around my grandchildren and my pregnant daughter.
Thank You

Brief Answer:
Can be contagious until diagnosed allergic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I understand your concern. The itching problem you mentioned can be due to lot of reasons like dry skin, allergic reaction to something, scabies etc.

If it is scabies,it can be contagious. You should try taking bath in epsom salt.Take anti histamine tablets like cetirizine or fexofenadine for few days. Avoid any new chemical, wool, soaps and other substances, which can irritate the skin and cause itching. Sometimes the substance, such as poison ivy or cosmetics, causes an allergic reaction. Food allergies also may cause skin to itch.

If it does not subside after doing all this, please consult your physician and get treated accordingly.Feel free to ask more.
