What Causes Itching On Thighs And Calves?

Question: Hi, I am a 23 year old male. I have been having itchy thighs and calves for about 2 weeks now. They are small and red. They are not very raised but I noticed that they occur mainly where the hair grows out of the skin. The spots cover most of my front and back thighs as well as the lower legs (mainly the shin area). They itch a lot at night causing sleep loss and I will usually put lots of moisturiser before going back to bed. I also have some on the sides of my abdominal area but these feel different (more raised and larger surface areas). If it helps, I have a history of atopic eczema which I had recovered from after puberty.
Brief Answer:
A picture is needed. ..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am sorry for the situation you are in. I need to have a look at the red spots myself for a more specific opinion. You can upload a picture of the spots.
The itchy and red spots on your legs might be indicative for possible hair follicle infection. Eczema should be also ruled out.
Looking forward to have the picture in.

Hi, I have provided some attachments. Please review them.
Brief Answer:
Infection of the scratched skin area...following suggestions...
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for providing the pictures. I admit that the quality was not that good. Anyway, I was able to see only redness and infection of the site of scratching.
It is indicative for skin infection: oral antibiotics are advised together with :
- keeping a good hygiene of the affected area
- wash with warm water and soap
- apply anti-septic lotion
If no improvement, should consult with dermatologist to rule out eczema as you might need specific medications.
Hope it helped!

okay thank you. I have been putting on lots of moisturisers and it has been much easier to sleep lately, it could just be the dry skin from the winter. I will let you know if the problem comes up again. Thanks again!

Hi back,
Ok, then, try not to scratch too hard or too long as the site might get secondary bacterial infection.
All the best!
