What Causes Itching Sensation All Over Body After Having Whey Protein?

Itching could be due to urticaria/scabies/eczema/miliaria etc
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Generalised itching in body could be due to urticaria, scabies infestation, allergic contact dermatitis or miliaria. As you have been using your whey protein supplement since a year,so it is probably not the causative factor,
Now to diagnose your condition and advise appropraite treatment, i would like to know
If itching persists through out the day or is mainly nocturnal( ie in night) or presents off and on
If you have any skin lesions. If yes, please mention the affected areas
If lesions are small red bumps or large swollen wheals.
If lesions are persistent or present transiently.
Also please attach an image, so that your skin lesions can be analysed properly.
In the interim, please take tab levocetrizine 5mg daily to reduce itching. You may also use a calamine based lotion like venusia soft lotion or calosoft lotion to reduce itching.
Please answer my questions, so that we can move further with our discussion.
Take care

itching is lesser in daytime, but in night while sleeping it is severe. maximum itching happens in leg below knee. some time in upper back and chest. i don't have any lesions. it just appears while itching, immediately goes off. it is very small red marks.
its probably acute urticaria
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
You seem to be having acute urticaria.
In such cases we usually advise patients to get complete hemogram with absolute eosinophil count, urine and stool( both routine and microscopic examination) done to rule out preceding causes like infection (fever/sore throat/stomach upset/ urinary tract infection/ worm infestation). Sometimes urticaria could be due to drugs (pain killers, antibiotics) or food induced. So these causes should be ruled out too. Sometimes there is no preceding cause for urticaria.
In such cases I usually provide combination of antiallergic like oral desloratidine 5mg in morning and oral levocetirizne 10 mg in evening for fifteen days and then the dose is tapered as per response.
I would advise that you may get your tests done and then get back to us for follow up.
I apologize for the delay in replying and hope this helped.
Take care

since you have mentioned the drugs. i would like to share little bit of history.
i have undergone hair transplant surgery in 11th april. i have taken lot of anti-biotic and pain killers after surgery. medicines were 1) Levoflox (700mg) - once a day, 2) Flexon (3 times a day), 3) Ultracet (2 times a day). i have taken medicine for two weeks. itching had started during that period only. currently not using any of medicine.
from 25th april i am taking androanagen (once a day). i have to take till 15th July.
please let me know if it is because of these medicines.
continue androanagen.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
Onset of urticaria could be linked to your antibiotic and painkiller intake. Having said this, these medicines had to be prescribed post hair transplant to prevent infection, inflammation and pain. As now you have already stopped these medicines, you just need to start oral antiallegics that I mentioned in my previous post.
Please continue androanagen.
Hope this helped.
Take care.
